How Can A Silent Star Thrive In A Workplace

Let’s be honest, sometimes people would rather continue upholding the status quo than breaking it because they fear the consequences and the changes that will come with it. So, you keep doing what you do in hopes that someone else will notice and say something. This is a very common practice in the workplace and people like that are considered ‘silent stars.’ They do the best work and put in their best effort but do not seek any recognition or praise. They’re underappreciated, which often leads to the employers or the higher management continuing to overburden the person without any incentive or reward.

Identifying A Silent Star

Are you ready?

Silent Stars are usually those people who work with full dedication and enthusiasm but when it comes to reaping the rewards of their hard work, they take the side-line. They are core team members who solely focus on getting the work done and don’t care for the recognition, and, since their methods are quite unconventional, you might find them following a much different path to climb up the corporate ladder.

So, if you think you are this kind of a person, you may also shy away from taking credit even if it is rightfully yours. Some employers may even take advantage of this situation and continue paying you less for the lot of work that you do. So, how can you change that?

1. Identify What Is Holding You Back

The only drawback to silent stars is that they don’t take credit for their work or chase after recognition. This results in other people taking the credit for the work they probably didn’t contribute to. So, to change that, you need to identify what the reason is that is stopping you from claiming your rightful credit.

2. Speak Up

Once you’ve addressed your issues, it is time to speak up. You need to let your employer know that you have been doing your job and deserve all the credit that comes your way. This doesn’t mean you’re expecting your boss to send a few words of thank you, it can also be translated to a promotion or a pay raise!

The last and the most important step is to know your worth and that you are deserving of all the credit and the recognition.
